Person County Partnership for Children is the administering agency for the state funded community-based, voluntary pre-kindergarten More At Four initiative designed to prepare at-risk four-year-olds in North Carolina for success in school. Programs are to meet high quality standards, with a specific curriculum that is focused on preparing children in developmentally appropriate ways for success in schools (e.g., emphasis on literacy, numbers, physical/fine-motor development, and problem solving/thinking). There are 88 More At Four slots available in Person County and these services are currently provided at three local child serving agencies:

Piedmont Community College Day Care:

Early Intervention and Family ServicesPiedmont Community College Day Care – This five star licensed day care center is located on the campus of Piedmont Community College and currently serves 39 children. Eleven are supported through More At Four. This program is enriched through its relationship with the Community College which offers frequent opportunities for guests providing hands on educational experiences. Plus the children enjoy weekly campus fieldtrips. Co-op students often intern at this center.
Early Intervention and Family Services:

Piedmont Community College Day CareThis program provides an array of services to young children from Person County. There are 8 More At Four funded children, with a total of 42 children. Each classroom is an inclusive classroom environment, serving typically developing children and children with or at risk for developmental disabilities. This center is also a five star rated center.
Earl Bradsher Preschool:

Earl Bradsher PreschoolIn addition to providing More At Four classrooms, This preschool also provides Head Start, Pre-K, and Preschool Exceptional Children services. Additionally, children enrolled at Earl Bradsher receive comprehensive services including family support and assistance to access needed health services. Learning Connections, a preschool resource center is available for children, families, child care providers, and teachers in the area. Earl Bradsher is a five star rated center, also.
Eligibility Requirements:

More At Four Program requirements are established by the state. The current At-Risk Criteria includes: --More At Four Pre-K students must be at-risk as defined primarily by low income. Families of children served must be at or below 75% of the state median income. ---Twenty percent of enrolled children may exceed this income level is they: 1) Have an identified disability 2) Are limited English proficient 3) Have a developmental/educational delay, and/or have a chronic health problem 4) Age: Children must be 4 by October 16. They must be eligible for public kindergarten the following year. Priority for More At Four Services: In all counties of North Carolina, unserved Children receive top priority for More At Four services. Only after all identified unserved children whose parents choose to enroll them are served are sites to move to priorities for under-served children.
