Smart Start is North Carolina's nationally recognized and award-winning early childhood initiative designed to ensure that young children enter school healthy and ready to succeed.

Person County Partnership for Children is a non-profit organization that was established in 1993 and began programming in 1994 with Smart Start funds from the Division of Child Development. A volunteer board of community members governs the agency. PCPFC provides funding for multiple projects in the community that provide education and support for preschool aged children with a particular emphasis on improving the quality and affordability of childcare, improving parenting skills, and improving preschool and family literacy.

PCPFC offers a variety of services for children, families, child care providers, community leaders, agencies, and organizations. We also fund programs for children and families within other agencies and organizations.

All programs and services focus on - Early Childhood Education School Readiness & Transition Parent & Family Support Community Outreach & Leadership Development Collaboration & Service Integration.

Child care scholarships are available for eligible families. Partnership Staff can refer you to the appropriate staff at Person County Department of Social Services.

You may go to the Division of Child Development's (DCD) web site at www.ncchildcare.net and view program specifics for individual facilities. You may also call DCD at 1-800-859-0829 to request additional information. If you call the Partnership at 336-599-3773, we can also give you basic program information.

A parent counselor will ask for certain information (address, work / school location, child's age and needs etc.) in order to determine the best possible referrals for your family's needs. You will be given several referrals to licensed child care facilities. These are referrals and not recommendations. During the referral process the parent counselor will discuss quality indicators, location, special program options, and cost with you. For child care referrals, call Nina Taylor at 336-599-3773.

To become a licensed in-home child care provider you must be 21 years or older and have a High School diploma or G.E.D. Other things you will need include: Current CPR/ First Aid, Negative T.B. test, Local criminal background checks for you and any one residing in your home who is 15 years or older. You may call any of the following agencies to schedule a time to have your child’s car seat checked for proper installation and /or recall updates. The Partnership for Children also sponsors Car Seat Safety Clinics three times a year. Watch and listen to local advertising for clinic times and dates.
